Akio's put his career ahead of time with his family for 40 years. Now that he's reached retirement age, however, he wants to thank his wife Eiko for supporting him all this time, so he's come up with a plan - along with his daughter Fuyumi and her husband Taro - to take them all on a vacation to a hot spring. They never had the time for family trips while Akio was working, so it is with excitement, and gratitude toward Taro, that they arrive together at a hot spring town.
